A SLICE OF HEAVEN, MALAYSIAN ROTI!

The bread, or 'Roti' in Malaysia is somewhat influenced by the cultural backgrounds of the various ethnic groups of the country. The bread or Roti is eaten plain or mixed with delicious fruits and vegetables, make it be toasted, steamed fried or grilled.

1. NAAN
Originally from northern India, Naan comes in various flavours and toppings such as garlic, cheese, butter, raisins, nuts, vegetables and even meat. This hot bread is served with fragrant mint sauce, dhal or lentil gravy and sometimes alongside tandoori chicken, a flavoursome baked chicken dish marinated in herbs, spices and yoghurt.
2. ROTI JALA
Made from a mixture of flour, water, eggs, coconut milk and yellow food colouring, the smooth and creamy batter is poured through a multi funelled mould which is held over a flat pan and moved in circular motion. This Roti is unique and looks different from the other bread.

3. ROTI CANAI
This pancake, 'Roti Canai' is the most popular and all time favourite of the people and to the foreign visitors of the land. It is made from  a dough of flour, sugar and egg which is then kneaded, flattened and tossed until it is flat and thin.

4. MURTABAK
It is made from rich batter of whipped egg, meat-chicken, mutton or beef, chili and onion, it is folded into the 'roti' and cooked over a griddle. It is very similar to "roti canai."

5. ROTI BAKAR
Roti Bakar is also the all-time favourite in Malaysia. It is toast and served with a twist. The warm and crispy butter is often dipped into half boiled eggs and eaten too-it is best enjoyed with a hot cup of local coffee.

6. CHAPATI
Once again, originally from India, this bread is very popular to the Malaysian people. It is a flatbread made of whole wheat flour. The dough is rolled out into a shape much like a tortilla. It is torn into little pieces and used to scoop vegetable, meat and lentil curries.
